Clooney gives a clue

I Am a Liberal. There, I Said It!> by George Clooney

...The fear of being criticized can be paralyzing. Just look at the way so many Democrats caved in the run up to the war. In 2003, a lot of us were saying, where is the link between Saddam and bin Laden? What does Iraq have to do with 9/11? We knew it was bullshit. Which is why it drives me crazy to hear all these Democrats saying, "We were misled." It makes me want to shout, "Fuck you, you weren't misled. You were afraid of being called unpatriotic."....

This is the problem with a lot of people I know. They change their damn minds half way through things, because they were too scared of public repercussion on their views.

Administrator root password readable in cleartext on Ubuntu Breezy

Confirmed and critical bug:

"The root password from the first user registred by Breezy can be found by any user by reading the file /var/log/installer/cdebconf/questions.dat"

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/34606

Ouch.... OK I have been using / recommending Ubuntu for a while now, and this is a GLARING ERROR. I cannot see how any programmer out there could be stupid enough to cache a password in a file. Basic security precautions tell you encrypt the password as soon as you can and get rid of it on the first try. If such a simple and important security precaution was ignored, I have to wonder what else has been???

On a seperate note if you are interested in security, secure coding practices etc. pick up a copy of Writing Secure Code by Microsoft Press. I make it a mandatory read here, before anyone new writes any code. Amazon

Check out Onfolio - the new addition to the Windows Live Toolbar

Check out Onfolio - the new addition to the Windows Live Toolbar:

The new Windows Live Toolbar includes, for free, Onfolio, which is a very nice and useful feeds reader.

OK, the reason i am blogging today, and probably will be for the foreseable future was thanks to this little app today. I would not have thought to blog things usually because of the amount of effort it took to copy and paste a url then create a blog entry. If it sounds like I am lazy as hell, well it is true.

Not only does it do a good job on read my blogs, it lets you hold a odd webish clipboard, where you can keep clipings from email, web, etc and just organize yourself.... Kinda useful, good thing i tried out that Windows live toolbar. Other than onfolio and the windows live favorites, that i did not find use for any of the others, I still use FF as my main browser.

MIX06: IIS7

MIX06: IIS7: "

I am a big fan of IIS, IIS6 was the first software that made think that Microsoft had rethought about the concept of security and were working hard. IIS7 has so many better features comming up, which is very exciting. I also love the fact that they adopted the apache style .htaccess configuration files in folders. And i like it even more that the config files are based on ASP.Net web.config files.

Great job guys, keep it up
